When the nbn network arrives in your area, if you choose us as your provider, we’ll help organise the connection to your property. The Federal Government’s commitment to delivering the nbn network includes the standard installation of technology by nbn at your place at no cost to you.

Do I have to get connected?

For most people the nbn network is replacing Telstra’s existing copper network, so most Australians will need to move their home phone and internet services to the nbn network if they want to keep using their phone and internet at home.  All our current home broadband plans and bundles are nbn network-compatible, meaning that you’ll be ready when the nbn network arrives in your area. So, whether the nbn network is already there, or is still on its way, we have a plan, as well as a bumper entertainment bundle, for you.

What kind of connection do I need?

Depending on where you live, nbn will connect your property to the network using one of a variety of technologies. When the nbn network rollout reaches your area, nbn will let you know which technology will service your area.

Connecting to the nbn network

The nbn co provides different types of nbn technology depending on which area your home or business is located in. We’ve listed the different types of nbn connection below.

The type of nbn technology nbn co uses to connect your property will determine what your maximum internet speed can be.

Fibre to the premises (FTTP)

Optical Fibre that's leading all the way to your premises, and to the nbn connection box inside your premises.

Fibre to the node/building (FTTN/FTTB)

Optical Fibre is delivered to a node in the street or a distribution unit inside the basement of your building. From there, it connects through to your phone sockets using the existing copper network to connect you to the nbn network.

Fibre to the Curb (FTTC)

Optical Fibre leading to a small node in the telecommunications pit or mounted to the pole outside your premises. From the node, a copper telephone cable delivers the service to the wall socket inside your premises.

Fixed Wireless

A fixed antenna on your roof receives a signal from your local nbn wireless tower, with internal wiring to the nbn connection box inside your premises.

Hybrid Fibre-Coaxial (HFC)

Optical Fibre leading to a node in your street, or a nearby street, with a final stretch of coaxial cable to your premises, and to the nbn modem within your premises.

Your installation options

Once your property is connected to the nbn? network by nbn co, we’ll send you all the installation information you need to set up your modem. The modem provided is a Wi-Fi router that links the compatible devices at your home to your new network connection.

Self install

Tech savvy? We’ll send you the equipment and instructions for you to install it yourself. In some cases, we offer assisted self-installation, with guided support over the phone from a Telstra technician.

Professional install

Need help with installation? We can arrange a visit by one of our technicians to set up your connection for $240.

Due to workforce restrictions in Melbourne, some installations are currently self-install only. Professional install appointments will be available in late September.

Want ongoing help? Take up a 12 month Telstra Platinum subscription and get access to our tech experts over the phone, online or by visiting a Telstra store. $15/mth for 12 months. Min cost $180.

Priority Assist

If you are a voice-only customer, we’ll arrange your professional installation at no extra cost. If you are a broadband and voice customer who is eligible for priority assist, we’ll make sure your phone line is connected to the new network, at no extra cost.
