Yes, the latest Telstra Smart Modem Gen 2 works on all connection types. Which means once your area switches to nbn, you’ll be able to use the same modem.

If you have an earlier smart modem, you may need a conversion kit, which we’ll send you free of charge.
If you already have a Telstra Smart Modem, you won't need a new one to change plans or switch to the nbn network. It works on all connection types.

If you don't have Telstra Smart Modem and you're switching to the nbn network, we'll check if the modem you do have is compatible. If it is we provide you with a conversion kit to connect to the nbn network.

Speed Add-on: Superfast and Ultrafast are new nbn speed tiers. As a result, we do not have sufficient data yet to calculate the typical download speeds (7pm-11pm) that these tiers will provide. We will update this information once sufficient data is available. In the meantime, we estimate that these nbn speed tiers will support a typical download speed (7pm-11pm) of at least 215Mbps for the Superfast Add-on and 250Mbps for the Ultrafast Add-on. Service Availability: Services not available to all areas or premises.

Installation: Standard installation includes self-installation of your modem, eligibility criteria applies. Extra charges apply for non-standard installation of Telstra and nbn co equipment and for premises in new developments.

nbn? New Development Charge: In areas serviced by nbn co, Telstra may be required to connect services onto the nbn network. If you’re in a new development and not already connected to the nbn network, nbn co may charge $300 to connect your premises to the nbn network. If applicable, we will bill that charge to you. Once you are connected to nbn fibre, you won’t be able to move to our copper network. Extra charges may apply for non-standard or professional install of Telstra or nbn co equipment and for premises in new developments.

Netflix ISP Speed Index: The Netflix ISP Speed Index measures prime time Netflix performance of particular ISPs, not other services or overall network performance.

Medical security alarms, lift phones and fire indicator panels: If you have a medical alarm, lift phone or fire indicator panel, you need to register these services with nbn co by calling 1800 227 300. Medical alarms can also be registered online at nbn.com.au/medicalregister. It’s important to understand that registering these services won’t prevent them from being disconnected when moving to the nbn network. As well as registering, you must also contact your medical alarm, lift phone or fire indicator panel provider to arrange the transfer of these services to the nbn network
